"Rag" Bag!! made using the SU! scallop square bigz clear die and some fabric. Fun and easy!! Quick too!!
I cut 38 fabric squares - doing 8 at a time (yes 8!) - with the Scallop Square die and my Big Shot machine. Then I cut 19 squares of batting -- approx 3 1/2 inches (next time 3 inches will be good enough). Then I took two squares, and put one batting between and stitched from corner to corner -- that made the "X" in the square. Next, I stitched three squares together (top row) , three more (bottom row) three more (bottom of bag) three more (top of other side) and three more (bottom of other side). Then I stitched the two side squares together and attached to the bottom row of three. So now I had four rows of three squared and one row of 7 squares. I stitched the top and bottom rows of each side together and stitched the bottom row to the bottom section. Then up the sides. Now I just had the top left. Before I stitched around it, I measured off about 24 inches of our 1" double stitched grosgrain Chocolate Chip ribbon (twice - for two handles) Stuck the two ends into the end squares and stitched a couple stitches to hold them in place. I used the Melon Mambo 1/2" polka-dot grosgrain ribbon for a fastener - folded in half with a "V" in the middle and stitched across the "V" to hold it in place - then tucked the ends in the middle square with a couple stitches to hold it in place. Then I stitched around the whole top. Next to last came the most time consuming part -- I went around the whole purse and made a slit in all the scallops -- using a sharp scissors and being careful not to cut my stitching. Lastly, I washed the bag to fray the edges! Oh, almost forgot -- I added a button to close the bag - a big one that I took out of my Grandma's button tin! Make a pink (melon mambo) pin to hang on it so there would be some more pink. Love it, love it!! Fun and easy. If you would like to order the supplies to make one (or several!) yourself, email me.
